Fill sand

Fill sand is a general-purpose, low-cost material used for filling, leveling, and basic site prep. Unlike specialty sands, it is not finely graded or uniform, and may contain a mix of fine and coarse particles, small stones, or silt depending on the source. This variability makes it a practical choice for bulk projects where exact consistency isn’t required.

Because fill sand spreads easily and can be compacted, it’s commonly used to build up low areas, rough grade land, and create a base layer before more refined materials are added. It also allows for basic drainage, though it’s not designed for precision or structural applications without additional preparation.

Common uses for fill sand:

• General site leveling and grading
• Filling low spots or uneven ground
• Backfilling trenches and utility lines
• Base layer under pavers or hardscapes (typically with a finishing layer of higher-quality sand)
