#57 limestone is one of the most widely used clean crushed stone aggregates for driveways, drainage, concrete, construction, landscaping, and site-development projects. Commonly called 3/4-inch clean limestone, #57 stone, or washed limestone, it consists of angular crushed limestone particles typically ranging from approximately 0.5 inches to 1 inch, with most pieces averaging close to 0.75 inches.
Produced at limestone quarries and aggregate plants, #57 limestone is crushed and screened to remove most stone dust, clay, and fine particles, and may also be washed depending on the source and specification. This clean gradation leaves open spaces between the individual stones, allowing water to move freely through the installed layer. Because of this, #57 limestone is widely used for drainage systems, foundation backfill, utility trenches, septic installations, and other areas where clean stone and reliable water movement are required.
Its angular shape provides greater stability than smooth, rounded gravel. The fractured edges settle together and help resist movement after placement, allowing the stone to support vehicle traffic, equipment, concrete slabs, pipes, retaining walls, and other construction features. Although the particles interlock well, #57 limestone does not compact into a dense, tightly sealed surface because it contains little to no fines.
This combination of drainage and structural support makes #57 limestone a common choice for homeowners, contractors, builders, excavation crews, landscapers, farms, property managers, municipalities, and commercial construction projects. It can be used as a clean driveway stone, drainage layer beneath patios and buildings, coarse aggregate in concrete production, backfill around structures, or general-purpose clean stone across residential, agricultural, commercial, and civil construction work.
#57 limestone is also relatively easy to spread and place around foundations, pipes, retaining walls, buildings, drainage systems, and other site features. Its consistent particle size provides dependable coverage and helps maintain uniform drainage throughout the installed layer, which is especially useful for larger utility, drainage, infrastructure, and site-development projects.
For new construction and ongoing projects, #57 limestone is frequently used for foundation drainage, utility work, concrete preparation, access areas, trench backfill, and other phases where clean aggregate is required. Contractors may use multiple truckloads as work progresses across residential developments, commercial properties, roadway projects, farms, and larger construction sites.
Exact gradation can vary slightly by quarry, supplier, local specification, and region, but #57 limestone is generally produced within a similar size range and is widely available from local quarries and bulk aggregate suppliers. For larger residential, contractor, agricultural, municipal, or commercial projects, the material is commonly supplied in bulk and delivered by dump truck directly to the property or job site.
