DOT #8 limestone, also known as #8 DOT stone, certified #8 limestone, washed limestone chips, or specification-grade crushed limestone, is a clean, angular aggregate produced to meet applicable state Department of Transportation requirements. It is commonly sized around 3/8 inch to 1/2 inch, although exact gradation may vary by state specification and approved quarry source.
Because the stone is washed and contains little to no dust or fines, it allows water to move through efficiently while maintaining a clean, stable surface. Its fractured edges help the particles interlock and resist movement more effectively than rounded gravel, providing a dependable balance of drainage, durability, and structural support.
DOT #8 limestone is widely used because its smaller, uniform size makes it easy to place around pipes, foundations, retaining walls, and hardscape features. It is well suited for projects that require consistent aggregate quality, controlled gradation, and specification-compliant performance.
