Limestone #73 INDOT, also known as INDOT #73 stone, dense-graded limestone, compactable aggregate base, or specification-grade driveway stone, is a well-graded blend of crushed limestone, smaller aggregate, stone dust, and fines produced to meet Indiana Department of Transportation requirements. It is commonly described as a 1-inch-minus dense-graded aggregate, with most of the material passing the 3/4-inch sieve and continuing down through fine particles that support tight compaction.
The combination of coarse stone and limestone fines allows INDOT #73 to compact into a dense, firm, and accurately graded foundation. Larger particles provide load-bearing strength, while the smaller material fills the spaces between the stone and helps the blend lock together under pressure.
