#3 limestone, also known as #3 stone, coarse crushed limestone, large limestone aggregate, or stabilization stone, is a heavy-duty angular aggregate typically ranging from approximately 1 inch to 2.5 inches. Some regional or quarry gradations may include larger particles up to about 3 inches.
The fractured edges help the stone interlock and remain stable under vehicle traffic, equipment loads, and changing ground conditions. Its coarse size also creates open spaces for water movement, providing a dependable combination of drainage, load distribution, and structural support.
#3 limestone is widely used as a deep base or reinforcement layer beneath roads, driveways, parking areas, construction entrances, and equipment access zones. It performs well over soft or unstable ground and can be topped with crusher run, dense-graded aggregate, or smaller limestone to create a smoother finished surface.
