3"–5" limestone, also known as 3x5 limestone, bull rock, gabion rock, large crushed limestone, or coarse stabilization stone, is a heavy-duty angular aggregate made up of limestone pieces typically ranging from approximately 3 to 5 inches. Its substantial size and fractured shape provide dependable stability, drainage, and resistance to movement in demanding construction and erosion-control applications.
The large stones create open spaces that allow water to move freely through the material, while their angular edges help the pieces interlock and remain securely in place. This makes 3x5 limestone well suited for drainage channels, slopes, culvert areas, gabion baskets, and soft ground where smaller aggregate may shift or wash away.
3"–5" limestone is commonly selected for projects that require durable ground reinforcement and long-term protection from runoff, erosion, and heavy site conditions. It can also be used as a deep stabilization layer beneath smaller base stone or incorporated into large landscape features where a rugged, natural limestone appearance is preferred.
