Base Course Type 2

Base Course Type 2 is a minus, dense-graded crushed aggregate widely used for driveways, roads, and construction projects across New Mexico. Produced to NMDOT Section 303 specifications, this compactable base material blends crushed stone and fines to achieve excellent compaction, structural strength, and balanced drainage. Type 2 is commonly selected when you need reliable compaction and stability, but not the highest highway-level specification.

Typically graded up to 1 inch minus, Type 2 Base locks together tightly when compacted, forming a smooth, durable foundation that resists rutting, shifting, and long-term settlement. It is commonly manufactured from high-quality limestone or basalt, delivering dependable performance in both residential and heavy-duty municipal applications.
