Ditch lining stone, also known as drainage ditch rock, channel lining stone, erosion-control stone, or ditch riprap, is a durable angular aggregate used to protect drainage channels from washouts, scouring, and soil loss. It typically consists of larger crushed rock selected to remain stable in areas exposed to flowing water, storm runoff, and repeated weather conditions.
The rough, fractured stones interlock to reinforce the bottom and sides of a ditch while the open spaces between them allow water to continue moving through the channel. This helps slow water velocity, reduce erosion, and protect vulnerable soil around culvert inlets, swales, slopes, and roadside drainage systems.
Ditch lining stone is widely used in residential, agricultural, commercial, and municipal projects because it provides long-term stabilization with minimal maintenance. It is especially effective in drainage paths that regularly carry runoff or experience concentrated water flow during heavy rain.
