INDOT #2 limestone, also known as #2 INDOT stone, specification-grade crushed limestone, or coarse limestone aggregate, is a large, angular stone produced to meet applicable Indiana Department of Transportation requirements. It typically contains limestone pieces approximately 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches in size, although exact gradation may vary by approved source and project specification.
Its coarse size and fractured edges provide strong load distribution, dependable drainage, and resistance to movement under traffic and heavy equipment. The angular stone interlocks more effectively than rounded gravel, creating a durable reinforcement layer across soft ground and demanding construction areas.
INDOT #2 limestone is commonly selected for roadway, municipal, commercial, and residential projects that require specification-grade strength and long-term stability. It works especially well as a deep sub-base beneath compacted aggregate, providing structural support before smaller base stone or finished surfacing materials are installed.
