Armor stone, also known as armor rock, shoreline stone, coastal protection rock, or heavy riprap, is a large, durable natural stone used for shoreline stabilization, erosion control, and structural reinforcement in high-impact environments. Its substantial size and weight help it remain securely in place where strong currents, wave action, storm runoff, and severe weather can move smaller aggregate.
The massive stones are placed to form a protective barrier that absorbs and redirects water energy, reinforces exposed soil, and helps prevent washouts, undercutting, and slope failure. Their irregular shapes and rough surfaces allow the rocks to interlock, creating a stable armor layer along shorelines, riverbanks, seawalls, embankments, and major drainage structures.
Armor stone is widely used in marine, municipal, commercial, and civil construction because it provides long-term protection in demanding environments. It can also be incorporated into large landscape projects as retaining features, natural barriers, statement stones, and dramatic waterfront accents.

- Shoreline and seawall protection
- Riverbank and embankment stabilization
- Bridge and culvert reinforcement
- Marine and coastal infrastructure projects
- Dam and levee protection
- Stormwater outfalls and drainage channels
- Severe slope stabilization
- Large retaining and landscape features
