#410 stone, also known as #410 limestone, dense-graded aggregate, compactable limestone, or limestone road base, is a blend of crushed stone, smaller particles, stone dust, and fines designed to form a strong, tightly compacted foundation. Depending on the quarry and regional specification, the material may range from fines up to approximately 3/4 inch or 1 1/2 inches.
Its well-graded composition allows smaller particles to fill the spaces between larger stone. When properly placed, moistened, and mechanically compacted, #410 limestone locks together to create a dense, level surface with excellent load-bearing strength. This helps reduce shifting, rutting, settlement, and surface deformation under repeated vehicle or equipment traffic.
#410 stone is commonly selected for projects that require more compaction and structural stability than clean limestone. Because it contains fines, it forms a firmer base than washed drainage stone, but it also provides less water flow. It is best suited for road construction, driveway foundations, building pads, and hardscape preparation where strength and long-term support are the primary requirements.
Common Applications of #410 Stone
- Road base and highway sub-base construction
- Driveway and residential access-road bases
- Parking lots and heavy-traffic areas
- Base preparation beneath patios and pavers
- Building pads and foundation support
- Base layers beneath concrete slabs
- Construction entrances and equipment yards
- Grading and stabilizing uneven ground
