#2 slag, also known as #2 steel slag, coarse slag aggregate, or processed steel slag, is a heavy-duty angular material typically graded from approximately 1 1/2 inches to 2 1/2 inches. Produced from processed steelmaking slag, it is valued for its high density, rugged texture, and strong load-bearing performance in demanding construction and site-development applications.
The coarse, fractured particles interlock firmly under pressure, helping create a stable reinforcement layer beneath roads, access routes, equipment areas, and structural fill. Its open gradation also allows water to move through the material, providing a useful combination of drainage, strength, and long-term stability.
#2 slag is popular for heavy-use projects because it can withstand repeated traffic, equipment loads, and challenging site conditions. Its dense composition and rough surface provide dependable support in areas where a durable base, strong ground stabilization, and resistance to movement are essential.
